Southeast Kentucky Chamber Hosts Lunch & Learn with Pikeville Medical Center’s Dr. Chase Reynolds

PIKEVILLE, KY (February 28, 2024) – The Southeast Kentucky Chamber held a Lunch & Learn on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 with guest speaker, Dr. Chase Reynolds, Electrophysiologist with the Heart and Vascular Institute of Eastern Kentucky at Pikeville Medical Center.

The meeting provided networking opportunities over a catered lunch from Jimmy John’s. It was attended by healthcare representatives from Pikeville Medical Center, Brightview, and Bluegrass Care Navigators, as well as other business leaders in the community, all curious to hear the exciting news Dr. Reynolds had to share.

Dr. Reynolds began his presentation with some statistics about the severity of heart disease: it is the leading cause of death in the United States; around 700,000 people a year die from cardiovascular disease. Because of this, the Heart and Vascular Institute of Eastern Kentucky has worked hard over the past twenty years to provide world-class heart care to residents of Eastern Kentucky.

Dr. Reynolds then gave an overview of each department within the Heart and Vascular Institute and the therapies and procedures they offer.

The presentation then focused on the use of cutting-edge technology that has recently been FDA approved to treat Atrial Fibrillation. Pulse Field Ablation is a new procedure that will isolate and eliminate problematic cells that cause the heart to beat irregularly, without damaging surrounding cells and organs. PMC was selected as one of the first hospitals in the U.S. to be allowed to perform this procedure, which was performed by Dr. Joseph Souza on Thursday, February 15. This new procedure will set the standard for future Atrial Fibrillation treatment.

“We’re thrilled to see Pikeville Medical Center's introduction of the groundbreaking Pulse Field Ablation technology, marking a significant advancement in world-class heart care for our community,” said Southeast Kentucky President & CEO, Jordan Gibson. “We are proud to stand in partnership with PMC as they continue to lead the way in elevating medical standards and improving the lives of those we serve.”
