Valley Health Vice President Andrea Vallejos, MD Elected to National Epic Obstetrics Specialty Steering Board

HUNTINGTON, WV (July 1, 2025) - Valley Health Systems, Inc. congratulates Dr. Andrea Marcum Vallejos, Vice President of Health Informatics and Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) on her election to the Epic Obstetrics Specialty Steering Board. Vallejos will serve a two-year term on this national advisory group beginning July 1, 2025. The steering board’s mission is to improve electronic health record (EHR) workflows and tools for obstetric care.

Epic’s Specialty Steering Boards are peer-elected groups of clinicians and informaticists from some of the most respected health systems in the country. Each board works closely with Epic developers and other healthcare organizations to identify opportunities for improvement, guide content and strategy, and help shape Epic's Foundation System, which is the standardized EHR platform used across hundreds of health systems. Their recommendations benefit patients and providers across the Epic community.

Dr. Vallejos is a board-certified OB/GYN and Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). She has practiced at Valley Health since 2010 and assisted in the organization’s transition to Epic in 2022. She continues to direct initiatives focused on documentation improvement, provider efficiency, and innovation in care delivery, including the evaluation and implementation of artificial intelligence tools in medicine. She holds certifications as an Epic Physician Builder, a Power User, and in Notecraft for Physicians.

“I’m honored to represent community-based OB providers on this Steering Board,” said Dr. Vallejos. “My goal is to advocate for tools that make outpatient prenatal documentation more intuitive and aligned with ACOG guidance, and to help shape features that support high-quality, patient-centered OB care.”

In addition to her work at Valley Health, Dr. Vallejos has contributed to Uniform Data System (UDS) and OB/GYN Epic workgroups and brings the perspective of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to a board often dominated by large academic systems. As a Steering Board member, Dr. Vallejos will participate in monthly working sessions, share real-world feedback on Epic tools, and collaborate on targeted improvements for obstetrics. She also plans to advocate for development of a pregnancy-specific problem list section, better printing capabilities of flowsheets for non-Epic hospitals, and further customization of OB documentation to reduce burden while preserving quality.

Her appointment ensures that Valley Health, and the broader community health and FQHC sectors, have a stronger voice in shaping the future of Epic and the tools that support OB care nationwide.

Dr. Mathew Weimer, President & CEO of Valley Health, notes the important impact that Dr. Vallejos will have as a result of her placement on this committee: “Dr. Vallejos’s appointment to the Epic Obstetrics Specialty Steering Board is a testament to her dedication, expertise, and the respect she has earned among her peers across the country. This is also a great advantage for Valley Health’s patients, as they will not only continue to have access to all of the tools and advantages that Valley Health offers through Epic, but will have strong representation by an emerging national leader in the intersection of health information technology and women’s health, with updates and advances in care made possible by Dr. Vallejos and her colleagues on the steering committee. On behalf of the leadership team, all staff, and the greater Valley Health community, I congratulate Dr. Vallejos on this important achievement and am very excited to support her in this new endeavor.”
