Food City Celebrates Grand Reopening of Newly Remodeled Location

PIKEVILLE, KY — June 22, 2026 — The Southeast Kentucky Chamber joined Food City officials, community leaders, and local residents to celebrate the grand reopening and ribbon cutting of the South Mayo Trail location following the completion of a significant store remodel.
The renovation includes extensive upgrades throughout the store including updated shelving, modernized displays, and new refrigeration and cooler systems designed to enhance the customer shopping experience. A highlight of the remodel is the addition of self-checkout lanes, providing customers with greater convenience and efficiency.
City of Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter welcomed attendees and praised Food City’s continued commitment to the community.
"Food City has long been a valued partner and staple in our community," said Mayor Carter. "Their continued investment in Pikeville demonstrates their confidence in our city and their dedication to serving the families of our region."
Southeast Kentucky Chamber President & CEO Jordan Gibson also addressed the crowd, recognizing Food City’s longstanding support of the Chamber and its programs, such as the Patton Leadership Institute.
Food City President and CEO Steven Smith reflected on his personal connection to Pike County during the ceremony, sharing a childhood memory of attending the opening of Pike County's first Food City alongside his grandfather.
Smith concluded the ceremony with a surprise announcement that Food City will contribute $150,000 to the University of Pikeville's Bear Mountain Project, further demonstrating the company's ongoing commitment to supporting education and community development throughout the region.
We’re very proud to continue to re-invest and continue to make progress in Pike County and see Pike County prosper,” Smith said. “We’re proud to be able to announce $150,000 contribution to be paid to the university of Pikeville in support of the athletic complex. Food City will serve as the stadium’s concession stand sponsor. Bear Mountain is going to be a game changer for the university, for student athletes, as well as the community and we’d like to thank our Food City teammates, customers, and business partners for their continued support in making this contribution possible.”
The Southeast Kentucky Chamber congratulates Food City on the successful completion of the remodel and thanks the company for its continued investment in Pikeville and Eastern Kentucky.
