Big Sandy Health Care, Inc. Holds Ribbon Cutting for Johnson County Community Health Center

PIKEVILLE, KY (January 31, 2024) – The Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Paintsville/Johnson County Chamber of Commerce facilitated the ribbon cutting for Big Sandy Health Care’s new Johnson County Community Health Center on Thursday, January 25, 2024.

The new Johnson County facility is located at 450 South Mayo Trail in Paintsville, KY and was funded with $500,000 from UnitedHealthcare to offer a variety of health care services to meet not only the medical needs of patients, but to also tackle social and economic factors that may be barriers to accessing quality health care. The opening of the Johnson County Community Health Center marks a significant milestone in extending its services across the region, furthering the nonprofit’s mission to bring quality care close to home.

The ribbon cutting ceremony included speakers from Big Sandy Health Care and UnitedHealthcare. Several of the speakers paid tribute to Founder of the Mud Creek Clinic, Eula Hall, who joined forces with Big Sandy Health Care, Inc. in the late 1970’s to expand the reach of services offered to patients in the region.

CEO of Big Sandy Health Care, Inc., Dean Shofner, remarked, “The philosophy of the new clinic will follow the dream and the work of Eula Hall. She was one of the early employees of Big Sandy Health and the founder of the Mud Creek Clinic, now known as the Eula Hall Health Center. She believed the principal focus of health care should be providing access to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay.”

Jordan Gibson, President & CEO of the Southeast Kentucky Chamber, said, “We are proud to see Big Sandy Health Care continue to grow, and we support them as they carry on the vision Eula Hall into the present day. We recognized Big Sandy Health Care as our 2022 Business of the Year because of their dedication to providing access to quality health care in rural communities. Now they are furthering that achievement.”

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, attendees were given tours of the new facility, which will be able to provide a variety of services to patients in Johnson County and the surrounding area. These services include medical, laboratory, x-ray, pharmacy, dental, vision and behavioral health.
