The University of Pikeville is hosting an open house to assist future students and their families with filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Representative from UPIKE’s student financial services will be available the week of Jan. 5-9, from 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. The office is located on the ground level of the Administration Building.
All current and future UPIKE students are strongly encouraged to prepare for the 2015-2016 academic year by filing the 2015-2016 FAFSA renewal by Jan. 5, 2015.
Students who are Kentucky residents are at a greater risk of missing out on financial aid opportunities if they fail to file an early FAFSA application, according to Judy Bradley, director of student financial services at the university.
“State grant funds are being depleted quicker than ever this year,” said Bradley. “UPIKE requires all students to file a FAFSA. State grants are a tremendous benefit, but are not guaranteed.”
When filing the FAFSA, Bradley encourages students and their parents to use the “will-file” option on the application. The “will-file” option allows families to estimate 2014 income from a 2013 federal tax return, if the incomes are comparable.
The FAFSA Open House at UPIKE is free and everyone is welcome. Students and parents should bring 2013 tax information or the last paystubs received in 2014. For more information, call the student financial services office at (606) 218-5247.
