Promising Practices Summit and Appalachian Innovations Collaborative Meeting
You are invited to participate in the joint meeting of the Big Sandy and KY River P-16 Councils which have combined to form the Appalachian Innovations Collaborative (AIC) on Friday October 24 in Pikeville. The meeting will be held from 9:00 to 11 am in the Pikeville Expo Center as part of the National Promising Practices Summit showing exciting learning activities.
The AIC is composed of interested citizens, business, community, and political leaders, and all stakeholders who desire to raise educational levels and improve their communities and the regional economy. The AIC goal is to make the effective ties between education and job/community growth. AIC is promoting the KY Work Ready Community program as a strategy to improve education and economic growth.
You are invited to learn about the many, innovative practices going on in local K-12 classrooms as teachers present during the summit break-out sessions sponsored by the KY Valley Educational Cooperative and the Race to the Top (RTTT) grant.
The summit starts at 9:00 am in a plenary session with students singing anthems celebrating learning as a part of the RTTT “Appalachian Renaissance Initiative (ARI)” followed by brief addresses by Governor Paul Patton and former KY Education Commissioner Gene Wilhoit, co-chairs of the ARI Advisory Council. Our AIC group will meet then from 10 am to 11 am. You are encouraged to attend any breakout session which interest you and remain for lunch. One of the goals of the summit is for the general public to learn more about exciting personalized learning strategies going on in their local schools.
