Pikeville Poetry, in partnership with the Pike County Cooperative Extension Fine Arts program, and Pikeville Book Club, invites the community to a free lunch and film screening of “Anne Braden: Southern Patriot” on Saturday, March 9th at 12 pm at the Pikeville Extension Office (148 Trivette Dr., Pikeville).
The film "Anne Braden: Southern Patriot" is a documentary on the life and legacy of this legendary native Kentucky author, journalist, educator, and American civil rights activist described as “one of the great figures of our time” by historian Jacquelyn Dowd Hall. "Southern Patriot" is an Appalshop film which has previously been featured on KET - Kentucky Educational Television.
The screening coincides with the 2nd annual “Voices of Pike” poetry contest award ceremony and will also feature a discussion immediately following the film with special guest Mimi Pickering, director of “Anne Braden: Southern Patriot”. The lunch will start at noon, the film at 12:30.
Come learn about one of the most steadfast, brave women in Kentucky's history and enjoy free food in a relaxed community setting! It is free and open to the public - everyone is welcome.
